The food tag- Meme and a food ramble

To keep up with the Rambling prompt I have resorted to cheating. Cheating times two if you think about it! Eeh!
Cheating 1: This was supposed to be one rambling per day, but thanks to yours truly and her laziness I am still playing catch up on the posts. This is post four :(
Cheating 2: This ramble is going to contain a food  tag that I read from a blog that I stalk  and love.
Cooking is something I got interested in only after marriage. Oh I did know the perfunctory tea, coffee, chapathi, 2 types of side dishes and basic rice varieties like lemon rice etc but as the PC tries to tell me again and again, In theory there is no difference between theory and practice; but in practice, there is. Which we learnt the hard way, that is a story for another time :)

Lets go ahead to the meme:
1. What is the first dish that you cooked?
I had made dry aloo subzi when i was in school. I remember my Anna (elder brother) ate it with so much gusto that I decided to be his life long fan after that :) which I still am :):)

2. What is the first dish that you cooked for your better half? (If you are not married, you can tell us what you are planning to cook for him/her)?
Well here, I played safe. I did not cook for him till we got married, though the PC kept asking me to. Now I can safely accept that it was partly because I was scared of scaring him off with my then dismally limited cooking skills. He of course, claims that nothing could scare him away , sweet man that he is! After we got married and came back from his parents house I made dal for him, which he dutifully slurped :):)
3. Which food were you reserved to try first but then liked later it since you acquired the taste?
Amaranth Leaves. I used to hate the smell of these leaves cooking, but the PC has made me learn to like (not love, mind you!) stuff made with these leaves
4. What is your comfort food?
Can think of so many dishes that can comfort me right now!
Chapathis and aloo subzi like how my mom makes, with a generous pinch of hing
Dal, rice and a simple dry subzi
Rajma chawal
5. Which dish of yours you like the best?
Jeera rice, rajma, akki rotti, pasta with white sauce
6. Which dish of yours your family likes the best?
The PC likes aloo palak, paneer matar and garlic rolls and cakes made by me!
7. What is your favorite street food?
Different strokes from different places:
Delhi: Aloo tikki, pani puri, jalebi.. yum!!
Mumbai: Pav bhaaji, sev puri
Bangalore: Nippat chat (only place that I have eaten it)
8. Tell us about any of your kitchen disaster story.
I once told the PC that he is in for a treat as I was making dhokla (gram flour savory cakes) for the evening snack. I kept the batter in the cooker but then got so busy making the chutney that I forgot to turn off the cooker. Long story short, burnt besan (gram flour) is not a sweet smell!!
9. Any one or two food confessions ;-) ;-)
I love love love chocolates. I can probably eat an entire pack of Lindt truffles in a couple of days.
I dislike eating rice at night. Not for any diet related reasons, just dislike it. I know its considered blasphemy to hail from the south of India and not love rice, but there you go, normally contrary me!
10. Apart from basic stuff, like milk, yogurt, veggies what you have in your fridge or in pantry? (Name any 3 items)
Dosa batter, leftover cake, eggs, Jam
11. Any food related or cooking resolutions for this year?
Nothing in particular, but I realize its high time I started making healthier choices in food
12. In our custom when you goto Kasi, you need to give up one of your favorite veggie and fruit. So you cannot eat that veggie or fruit from then on. Which one you would you give up? (It should be your favorite one)
Favorite fruit is mango and favorite veggie is okra. But I do not think I would be able to give up these things for long
13. You need to prepare a 3 course meal for a party? What dishes will be there in your menu?

Pumpkin soup and cheese corn balls
Mango soda
Pasta with 3 sauces- white, red and pesto
Garlic bread
Chocolate cake with icecream

If this tag interests you and you haven’t taken it up already, please feel free to do so!

February Ramblings- Shopping woes

Since I have taken it up to ramble this month and I am way, way behind on the number of posts for this prompt, I have to pull up my socks and get to the business now. After all, a promise is a promise is a promise, especially so when it is made only to one's own self!

This past week has been crazy. Just when the dust settled from my move here that one of room mates is planning to leave. The past few days have gone in a haze of shopping. Now shopping is one of those things that I can take only in small doses (others include intrusive questions from people who have no reason to intrude, unsolicited advice and sugar). But ironically, for a disinterested shopper, I too tend to buy more things than I can store :)

Some times, the problem is having too many options rather than too few. Show me ten types of tops that I can buy and I will keep pondering over and over again on the pros and cons of the different types till I decide according to the what I call the "Golden rule of shopping". Here it goes, for all you uninformed shoppers out there:When in doubt, do not buy!!

This is what happened to me this past week. Everywhere we went, I saw some things I thought I wanted, but after thinking, ditched the idea of buying altogether as per the golden rule. And like I said, after a while shopping gets on my nerves. The feet start aching, eyes get confused looking at all the price tags after all, how many aisles can one person see before they all start looking the same?

I remember, two days after I landed here, the roomie took me shopping for boots as boots are as essential as clothes during the winter here. After trying on what seemed like a gazillion boots, I ended up buying a pair just when my eyes started to glaze. I do wish I had the dedication that some people I know have, to find the perfect everything, not only for themselves, but for others as well. To think about it, in things that really matter to me, I am a perfectionist. Like books, gifts for others, bags etc. but when it comes to things that are utilitarian in nature, this problem rears its ugly head.

This affliction is a boon when I realize I do not resort to shopping as therapy by default, though the few times I have tried it, it actually worked. It is the bane of my existence when I really want to buy something and get lost in the whys, whens and other questions that the little voice in my mind likes to ask me or even worse when I get lost amidst all the trials and end up buying something to just hold me up till the next time.

Enough rambling about my shopping woes, do you have any?

Till next time,
Cheers

Book review- Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn

Since I have decided to join the rambling wagon started by Shail (of Shailsnest) this month and I am I am already lagging behind on a couple of posts, I thought, why not ramble about one of the few good books I read in 2014: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.

I have been hearing about this book from a lot of sources: my friends, the blogs I stalk, goodreads, social networking sites, you get the picture, but somehow, though, I had this book in my Kindle, I never got around to reading it. It was only after I heard from the PC about the movie that my curiosity was finally piqued. I got to reading it and my reading being a million times faster than my writing, I finished reading it in a night. Okay, enough about me, lets get talking about the book; because after all, this is a book review!

Gone Girl is a book that starts with a interesting premise. A beautiful, intelligent, city-bred and discontent wife disappears on her fifth wedding anniversary from her small town home, in what seem like suspicious circumstances. As the book progresses, the husband is considered as the main suspect due to his seeming indifference to the wife's abduction, his inability to explain his whereabouts on the morning of the incident lots of other pieces of circumstantial evidence. In addition, the wife has devised a treasure hunt to rekindle the spark that his fizzed out of their romance. The husband Nick Dunne is clueless and evasive about their relationship. Conflicting accounts, lies and evasions of the Dunne marriage escalate the suspicion on Nick who is desperately searching for his wife.

I have read several reviews of this book (from the many sources I mentioned earlier) and so I knew the plot before hand, but once I started reading, I could not put this book down. The book is written in alternate POV, making the narration all the more interesting. The suspense, the thought process that has gone into every scene, twist, turn kept me hooked till the end. It is one of those books that make you look at the world and the people around you in a different way.

This is the first book I have read from this author, and I can not wait to devour more of her books. I would say, if you like suspense, and have not already seen the movie Gone Girl (isn't Ben Affleck so ultra cute!!) go ahead and pick this book. It does not have spies, takeovers and international politics but shows us that marriage can sometimes be the biggest power struggle.

Five Sentence Fiction- Bedtime

As she cowered in the corner of her room, she knew that locked doors served no protection against the actual terrors of the night. She had not had a full night's sleep in five years, not since the summer she turned seven and her ecstatic mother introduced her to her new 'father'.
Every day after bedtime, her 'father' paid her a visit, muffling her screams with grimy hands, killing her innocence bit by bit. But when those beady eyes started focusing on her six-year old sister, she knew she had to slay the monster living in their midst. Today, the shivering hands hidden behind the cowering body held the biggest knife from the kitchen, ready to vanquish the monster of her nightmares, for once and for all.

What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Lillie McFerrin (http://lilliemcferrin.com/) posts a word prompt every week for inspiration  and anyone wishing to participate may write a five sentence story based on the prompt word.

This week's prompt is Bedtime.

The first post of 2015- Missing most things

Well, 2014 passed off in a breeze. I can not believe that it already a month past in the new year. 2014 brought a huge change in my life, I moved from India to the US in mid- December. Perhaps the excitement of the move, coupled with the fact that I was going to travel alone can excuse the scarce number of posts since September...Perhaps not. :) The fact of the matter is that I began so many posts in my mind while completing my chores, while travelling, at work and so on, but as soon as I opened the laptop to write something, poof! all those  thoughts disappeared like fog on a sunny day! Hello, blogger's block :)

So now it has been nearly one and half month in the US, and since the initial chaos of relocation is wearing off, I have started missing most things from my life back in Bangalore.  I miss so many things from back home already- my family, friends, the weather, the street food, my team, the list just goes on.Back in Bangalore, me and the PC used to stay alone in an apartment near by to our offices, the in-laws stay at the other end of the city and my parents stay in my native town. So, some times it used be a couple of weeks between visits to the in-laws and in the case of my parents, it used to be months, But still, here I feel like I have not seen them since forever.I am already missing my parents' visits to Bangalore, when I used to be treated like a princess. :(
I miss my gang of friends from office, the numerous tea breaks, walks after lunch, frequent trips to the malls and so many more things. Here, the weather is currently too cold to allow many excursions outside and so its just home to office and back for me... I am staying with two wonderful roommates- R1 and R2. R1 is planning to return to India soon, so most of the weekends have been spent in shopping, window shopping and basically just having fun. I have realized that living with someone will make you very close to them, I did not know R1 or R2 before coming here, but within 5 odd weeks, we have become bosom buddies :):). Being a vegetarian, my options to eat at office are severely limited here, so we cook everyday, together, chat, tell each other secrets, giggle like teenagers, watch movies and shows on Netflix and call it a night.

A major change in my life is that the PC is still in India. It is the first time that we have not been together to bring in the New Year since we got married. So New Year's was a a subdued affair for both of us. Here is to hoping me and my Prince Charming (PC) spend all the coming new years together :):)

So this is normally contrary me, blogging again after a hibernation of sorts, alone in a new country in a new year, rambling about everything and anything around me. I am a huge and mostly silent fan of Shail's Nest (http://shailsnest.com/) and thanks to her new tag, I have finally written (more like scribbled)  a complete post after realizing I have done zilch writing for this year! I do not know if this qualifies for Shail ji's tag, but sure hope it does :) First post in 2015, yay!!!

Solitary Quest

********
There she goes, towards the intangible horizon
walking with steps measured  and sure
Creating ripples as she crosses the rivers of pain
Shielding eyes from ever-present censure
Stepping over shards of dreams slain

There she goes, towards the intangible horizon
On her solitary quest for the elusive shore
Her determination her only armor
Forged by fire, she emerged, stronger than before
And in the eye of the storm,
She stands smiling, her incongruous thoughts calmer.

For this poem, I have not followed any form (no surprise there!). I came across this prompt ad have tried to do justice to Magpie's picture.

Soulmates

Poetry is something that has always mesmerized me. The way the words are threaded into beautiful strings to show the depth of human emotion takes away my breath!
Recently, I came to know of different poetry forms; talk about method to the madness of poetry. The use of innumerable permutations and combinations to come up with the exact number of syllables fascinates and scares me at the same time. I mean, come on,a-b-c-c-b-c-b-a?? really??
Still, like my dad always tells me, if its been done, there is a way to do it! You just have to figure it out. If it hasn't been done, you get the chance to be the first... Yaay you! And if you knew me, you would know, figuring out a puzzle always fascinates me :):)

I decided to start with something simple. Because following the rules on this form of poetry itself for daunting for the non-conformist in me or because I did not want the multi-headed dragon that is poetry forms to slay me at our first skirmish!!

Here is my maiden attempt at Palindrome Poetry... Presenting SOUL-MATES

Sunrise to sunset
Together walking
Fingers entwined
Impossible dreams realized
Promised love forever
Soul-mates
Forever love promised
Realized dreams impossible
Entwined fingers
Walking together
Sunset to sunrise

*** Definition from www.shadowpoetry.com: Also Known as Mirrored Poetry

A palindrome, by definition, is a word, phrase, verse, sentence, or even poem that reads the same forward or backward. It stems from the Greek word palindromos: palin, meaning again, and dromos, meaning arunning. Combining the two together, the Greek meaning gives us, running back again...

Phew!!! That was a tough cookie. All those people who write poetry strictly to form, I bow down to you!!

Random!

Well, more than half the year is over. And my resolution to keep this place alive is failing

badly. Today, as I type this while I am stuck in traffic I realized that I can blame busy

schedules, work stress for this oversight or be a man(a woman, in this case!!) and

accept that if I had set my priorities straight, I would have managed to make the time

like so many other busy bloggers whom I read about all the time.

I have found that given the option of reading versus writing, I tend to choose reading

every time, albeit by habit. Does this happen to you too? Knowing your problem is half

the solution, or so I have read (well-read, moi :)). So what about the other half you ask??

The other half comes from consciously deciding to write and make the time to write.

Lets see how it goes.. Fingers crossed!!!

Complaints

So after a long time, I am back to this space.Don't worry, this post is not about my complaints against any person, organisation or the universe in general. Not because I don't have any, but because, if I start, I may not stop :)

Recently, I had been to a cooking class ( I will post recipes when I try them) and met two other ladies there. One of them was continuously complaining about her life... her husband, her kid, in-laws, relatives. After listening to her diatribe, not all vicious mind you, I started finding so many things wrong in my life. I could identify with so many of the issues being discussed, it scared me. Because I had hitherto thought that I am a very content, happy person.

Soon, I reached home and found something wrong with the way the newspapers were arranged, the dining table was set, the fan was rotating... okay, I exaggerated there. But you get the picture. I left home as a completely happy gal and came back in the guise of a- for lack of a better word, complaint box!! By the end of the day I was exhausted, with everything around me, with myself and with life. The contented life of earlier now looked like a joke, a travesty of happiness- where I was going from one day to the next overlooking all the shortcomings in my way. But then, who doesn't?

Are any of our lives perfect? I hope not, a perfect life would mean I would have nothing to strive for, to look forward to, to live for. How effective is complaining about all the imperfections that life has in store for us? I have read (being the well-read person that I am) that complaining is good for the soul.  But like all other remedies for the soul, moderation is the key. No one likes to be friends with a dissatisfied, frowning, frustrated being! But if any person is all rainbows and sunshine, I would not be able to handle that either. :)  So maybe the best way is to have a rant once in a while, just to show that we all are human and to add that dash of sanity. And not let someone else's rant trigger your own... I know, I know, not like I did { a person learns from his/her mistakes, right? (:}

Like the Serenity Prayer says: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.

What about you? have you had experiences where someone's rant has woken you up made made you take notice of all life's imperfections? Come on, don't be shy, tell me I am not the only one :)

Till next time,
Cheers!

8 Random things about me and 5 quotes

As I am new to the blogging world, I keep looking for inspiration. Recently, this wonderful blogger that I follow posted this and I have taken up the tag mainly to exercise my writing muscles :)

So first 8 random things about me:

1. I love plants but sadly do not have much of a green thumb. So the only plant that I can maintain is my beloved, much pampered tulsi. My PC (Prince Charming for the uninitiated) tells me I need to grow up a little before I can grow my garden! :( boo hoo

2. I absolutely dislike the sound that pigeons make. I know lots of bird lovers would shoot me for saying this but I think pigeons are pests. They manage to make a mess anywhere. But for all my dislike I am against hurting any of them despite more than sufficient provocation from their end. :)

3. I am a very fast reader. Also, once I start reading, if the book is interesting, I can give up sleep and food till I finish the entire book. I remember this is what happened when I read Dan Brown's Angels and Demons. Sadly, recently, no book has inspired that kind of involvement from me.

4. I absolutely love the weather these days, feel like snuggling in the blanket all day long. But duty calls, so have to wake up at all ungodly hours to lazily complete all the chores before heading to office

5. I have been trying to learn driving since a long time now. I have had 2 Learning licences that have expired before I could take the driving test. I know, I know, lazy me!!

6. I scribble a lot while talking on the phone. There are times when after an hour long conversation, I have had a full scale scenery at my hands with no memory whatsoever of creating it. Yes, I am crazy that way :)

7. I am in awe of people who can write poetry in all those forms that dot the internet. I mean, having the ability to write verse is one thing, but to be able to write it in a way to fit the structure defined by a form... way too awesome!!

8. I am learning a lot about football and the EPL, thanks to my PC**. Even my knowledge of cricket was sketchy at best before marriage. Now I actually know what the silly point means! yaay me!! :):)

And now, 5 quotes that mean a lot to me:

1. "And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you, because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it."
- Roald Dahl

2. “You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching,
Love like you'll never be hurt,
Sing like there's nobody listening,
And live like it's heaven on earth.”
― William W. Purkey

3. This one from Bob Marley is so inspirational:
“Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.”
― Bob Marley

4.
“Our true friends are those who are with us when the good things happen. They cheer us on and are pleased by our triumphs. False friends only appear at difficult times, with their sad, supportive faces, when, in fact, our suffering is serving to console them for their miserable lives.”
― Paulo CoelhoThe Zahir

5. "Dear God," she prayed, "let me be something every minute of every hour of my life. Let me be gay; let me be sad. Let me be cold; let me be warm. Let me be hungry...have too much to eat. Let me be ragged or well dressed. Let me be sincere - be deceitful. Let me be truthful; let me be a liar. Let me be honorable and let me sin. Only let me be something every blessed minute. And when I sleep, let me dream all the time so that not one little piece of living is ever lost.”
― Betty SmithA Tree Grows in Brooklyn

I hope I have done justice to the meme, this can be taken up by anyone :). And as you can see, I took long enough to complete this post. I started it sometime last week and am finally posting this today. Hopefully the new year has more frequent posts from me in store **fingers crossed**

Happy New Year

Wishing an awesome, exhilarating New Year to all. I wish for an year that is full of surprises and inspiration and hope to continue expressing my thoughts through this window to my soul, my blog.

As far as New Year Resolutions go, I am not the best at keeping them. But some resolutions, where the goal is clear and the rewards far outweigh the hard work required, I have managed to fulfill. For this year, I hope to finally learn driving a four wheeler and work more on my writing. It is a well-known fact in my family that I am one of those few people in the universe who managed to become an adult without learning to ride a bicycle :( A fact that I regret now, but am too chicken to reverse. So four wheelers are my only hope of self sufficiency. As a  kid, I was chauffeured everywhere like the daddy's princess I am and later on preferred taking public transport to maintain what I liked to call "My Green Quotient" :) . Now, my PC is very helpful in driving me wherever I want, and my city has buses and other means of transport, but this is my belated attempt at being independent :)

As far as improving the frequency and quality of my writing is concerned, I am still shaking off the rust on my pen and trying to work out a routine where I can scribble a few lines a day. Sometimes, I feel that there are too many thoughts in the mind that refuse to get written on paper. Does that happen to you too? Now I have taken up to writing on random bits of paper whenever the thought strikes me. Let's see if that improves :)

What are your New Year Resolutions? Do you plan on learning/ improving anything?

P.S.: PC: Prince Charming

When you come back

whispers of dawn lighten the sky,
but the darkness of the heart has no respite
our garden is a now forest
but the blooms are still untouched by sight.

and when you come back
by the river you will find me
smiling in the petals of a daffodil
flitting in the gossamer wings of a bee.

and when you reach out,
in the wildflowers' scent I will waft in
in the fireflies' light I will elude
like the wind I will be wherever you see.

shades of dusk permeate the horizon
seek me in the lake at first daylight
when you find my watery grave
envelop me in you arms and hold me tight.

I believe that true poetry comes from the soul and mostly has no form. That when we use different poetry forms or structures, the form that we present it in is an adulterated rendition of our thoughts and feelings. This is a poem that follows no format or structure, directly out of my heart, hope it reaches yours.

Tough or Easy?

Last week I had been to my cousin's wedding in Mumbai. On my way back yesterday, I was waiting for the flight to board at the airport. Mumbai being Mumbai, within twenty minutes, I was feeling thirsty. I looked around and headed to the crowded ( another characteristic of Mumbai) snack counter. Since there was a huge line, I thought, let me look and see if I like any of the soft drinks before joining the queue. While I was lost in my thoughts, a lady, well dressed and educated standing in the line looks at me and says haughtily, "excuse me, there is a line, you have to join". And this when I was nowhere near the line. I was stupefied for a minute. Then the lioness in me woke up, but it was too late. The "line lady" had turned back and the moment was lost.

I found this incident very difficult to forget. I had a lot of good memories of the time I spent with my extended family on this trip, but this one totally unimportant and meaningless incident overshadowed my mind for a very long time. A niece's smile, a nephew's lisping rendition of Johnny Johnny rhymes, shared laughter with cousins, pulling each other's leg and just being with family. On the plane, I realized that it is so tough to forget some things but there are so many good memories that are washed away.

This incident brought about one more thought to my mind, it is so easy to be rude, to curse, to hurt and so tough to be nice, to compliment, to heal. And being human, we all choose to do the easy things. When I was standing there in the airport cafe, it would have been easy for her to be nice, easier to ignore the girl lost in her own world next to her but she chose to presume the worst and be rude to her. Maybe, the lady's actions were a result of tension or stress in her life, but is that any excuse to take it on an unsuspecting person? How many times, have we done the same thing, been obnoxious while being cordial was equally possible, where with no or little provocation we have spoiled some stranger's mood?

I have promised myself today that even if I cannot forget the negativity around me, I will not allow it to overshadow the sunshine and happiness that all my beloved people spread in my life :):) So, the lady who yelled at me in a crowded airport, you actually taught me something! Thank you!

What to do when people leave?

People leave, sometimes when things go wrong, sometimes in search of something and sometimes for no apparent reason at all. What does one do when someone close to you leaves, follow them, ask them to come back, hate them or let them walk away ?

I am one of those who believe that all of us are on a journey. A journey that began in our mother's womb and will end when we are in our tomb. So when someone leaves, its because their journey is taking them somewhere else. And if you are not essential to their journey, then perhaps they are not to yours. So what if the person showed you colors in you and around you that you were unaware of? You know yourself better now and you were alive and well before you met them.

I know its never easy to let go of anger, least of all, when it is righteous. But it is up to you whether to hold on to a dream that has already let you go or take a step forward and carry on with the other things in life, there is so much more to love, to experience, to feel. Do not let yourself stop your journey because one person left your ship. There are many more passengers that  you can pick up on your way, but always remember, each passenger is on his own journey.

Put all the hate in a letter and burn it. Let all your anger  disappear in the ashes, there is no use in nursing old hurts, because as long as you stay mad, its not going to get better. Forgive and move on to all the better things that life is waiting to show you.

Till next time,

Cheers

Why should one write?

Since childhood, I have had a worship for all things literary. Any free time on my hands and I would curl up with a book. Sometimes, during summer holidays, after exhausting my share of books from the local library, I would beg my brother to get some books for me. This love for books soon moved to writing snippets of prose and poetry during high school years.

But as time passed and I started feeling the pressure of making grades for a good college, then cracking the interview for the perfect company and finally maintaining all the deadlines which are a part and parcel of every IT story. And then the little connection that I had to writing slowly leaked out of my life. Things did not change after marriage, but rather, I got a convenient excuse whenever I asked myself, "Why am I not writing?" Frankly, where is the time I said to myself. Work and learning how to maintain a home, despite being a Daddy's little princess ( more about that some other time) has completely engulfed my life. So one fine day, when I was going through one of many inspirational blogs I realised that I have been hiding myself from the reality of writing. Of putting my thoughts into words.

I had created this blog during one of those upbeat moods while going through old poems,I thought that my creativity or lack there of should be out there in the world and not just a page in my well worn notebook. But I did not post anything old or new on this blog because I was scared, what if no one reads my blog, or what if people read it and hate it? And why start something without knowing if I have the time to go through with it. Why should I write?

Today, I had an epiphany. I have read a lot on the internet so far. Some of it really good, some in my honest opinion could use some improvement but at least there are other people who have the guts to go tell the world what they are thinking. So, moving on to the epiphany, it does not matter if no one likes what I am writing, it does not matter if no one reads (well to tell the truth, it does matter, but lets look at the bigger picture here) what matters is that when I write, I am sharing a part of myself, creating something that has my stamp on it. And like chopping onions, it might be unbearably tearful in the beginning, but with time I can only get better.

Dear reader, you came across this page while just checking the net and like me nurse an insatiable love for writing but have been wondering when and how to take the plunge into writing, believe me, there is no better time than now. And if like normally contrary me, you have also overcome the indecision and fear or being unheard, do share your story with me, I can always do with new inspiration.

Till next time,

Cheers!

Lost Love

She knew it would all end in pain

But given a choice, she would love him

forever and all over again

Her dreams of moonlit walks would remain a fantasy

And yet, she treasured the clandestine moments of rendenzvous

every step of that one shared waltz made her dizzy

Her presence was like the warmth of a blaze on a winter night

her musical laughter mesmerized him,

he was losing his heart and he did not even put up a fight

How could something feel so right, when they knew deep down, it was wrong

he was pledged to a different destiny and her dreams were shattered

They could not live in their blissful oblivion for long

She walked away, because she could not stand being in the way,

embraced him for the last time and with a smile

sent him to where his duty lay

He stood, arms outstretched, lips moved, but all the broken promises choked his throat

Fighting his inner demons, when he called out to his lost love,

she was gone, like she never was, without even a goodbye note..

About me...

Hi there, I am just a normal city gal, facing the same day to day issues as many out there but usually have a contrary view ready for most of the things that are happening around me. This blog is my mouthpiece to bring out those views there and whenever the going gets a little monotonous, it will be spiced up with the small craft projects that I entangle myself into. :)

Also I want to maintain an on-going library of recipes that work for me in my kitchen, but there is a long way to go!! Great expectations, you say? But then, only when you aim for the sky do you reach even a cloud.. So this is me, grabbing that bit of cloud :):)

This blog is me keeping a note of things that happen while I live, love and laugh through this voyage called life.

Hello and Welcome

Hi !!!

Welcome to my space for relaxing and sharing what is on my mind.

I am a software engineer by profession and a newly-wed cooking adventurer at home and so I am occupied most of the weekdays coding, debugging or cooking and cleaning :)

But at heart, I have always wanted to nurture the creative side of me that has been ignored since eons now. This blog  is a small attempt at keeping that hope alive.

I will be posting my random musings about things, poems, some craft work (difficult to believe I still manage to those) and book reviews here. Did I mention I love books? Reading is something that can improve not only my mood but also my health. Whenever I have a headache, a book is what comes to the rescue :)

Thank you for dropping by and do leave a note if you like something on this space :)

Cheers!
